Semple Brown Wins People's Choice at Modern in Denver's "Design in Bloom"
We're thrilled to announce that Semple Brown has been honored with the People's Choice Award at Modern in Denver magazine's annual "Design in Bloom" event. Among 16 participating architecture and design firms, our floral installation captured the hearts—and votes—of the 750 attendees at the celebratory gathering held at Room & Board's Cherry Creek showroom.
A Creative Commentary on AI and Human Artistry
Our award-winning arrangement wasn't just about beautiful blooms. The installation featured flowers encased within ice blocks, creating a striking visual metaphor for one of today's most pressing conversations in the creative industries: the relationship between human creativity and artificial intelligence.
Our design explores the controversial relationship between human creativity and artificial intelligence, explains the concept behind our piece. The blocky ice composition deliberately evokes the pixelated nature of AI-generated images, while the foggy, ethereal flowers preserved within bring an element of surrealism and organic beauty. We hoped to develop an installation that encourages viewers to reflect on how technology can support rather than replace the artistic process. The arrangement suggests that AI can become a collaborator in creativity—extending human imagination rather than diminishing it.
Design as Dialogue
The installation invites an important conversation about the future of design practice. As our design narrative states: "The arrangement invites viewers to consider how thoughtful design can coexist with efficient tools, and how harmony can emerge from collaboration between the organic and the artificial."
This thoughtful approach to addressing contemporary issues through unexpected mediums—in this case, floral design—demonstrates Semple Brown's commitment to exploring meaningful themes across all creative endeavors.
Celebrating Creative Community
This is our third year (and second win) at the Design in Bloom event. We feel Design in Bloom represents more than just a celebration of floral artistry. It's Modern in Denver magazine's invitation to local designers to push creative boundaries and exercise their ingenuity in new mediums. The event brings together the design community to explore fresh expressions of creativity while building connections and celebrating the innovative spirit that drives Denver's architecture and design scene.
