Denver Union Station Wing Buildings
Denver, CO
Semple Brown Design was selected to partner with Anderson Mason Dale Architects to design the two new buildings flanking the historic Denver Union Station. The buildings frame the new public plaza on the city side of the Station, establishing a “front porch” for arriving and departing passengers and an outdoor room for the Lower Downtown neighborhood. On the city side of the Station, the new buildings provide active edges of ground-level cafes, shops and pedestrian-oriented events. Both buildings are massed to defer to the Station’s height, and their highly transparent facades contrast with the solid masonry of the Station. The use of brick links them to the context of the neighborhood, but their contemporary detailing establishes an interface between the historic structures and the new development on the other side of the Station.
