University of Northern Colorado Campus Commons

Greeley, CO

The University of Northern Colorado Campus Commons provides this growing campus with a unique front door for community members, prospective students and alumni. Semple Brown Design has designed this unique combination of community center, student services center and the home of new performance and gallery spaces for the College of Performing and Visual Arts.

The 108,000 sf Campus Commons will serve as the “home base” for student recruitment and orientation programs as well as alumni special events. A 400-seat multi-purpose room can support seated dinners as well as formal presentations with a telescoping system of theatre seats. An intimate 50-seat presentation room welcomes prospective students to the campus.

And a new 670-seat performance hall showcases UNC’s music and music theatre programs front and center. The flexibility of the performance hall is enhanced with an orchestra shell, orchestra pit lift and adjustable acoustics. The performance hall and adjacent ensemble rehearsal studio each feature a system of adjustable acoustical drapes that modify the reverberant character of each room to accommodate choral, instrumental and jazz music. The infrastructure of the performance hall includes a complete orchestra shell; orchestra pit lift that can extend the stage area into the audience; live audio mix position; recording/streaming studio; and scenic flying capacity.
Meeting and conference spaces in the building are fully supported with a catering kitchen, audio/video systems and a grand central lobby that can be configured for receptions and dinners.

The University of Northern Colorado’s Campus Commons was awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Buildings Council.
