Highland Heritage Regional Park Stage
Highlands Ranch, CO
The new stage structure in the Highlands Heritage Regional Park creates an iconic community gathering space. To complement the open space and athletic facilities of the park, the stage supports a community concert series and year-round park users.
The new stage and canopy are not only a striking sculptural addition to the park, but also address several critical functional challenges:
- Providing an accessible path to the stage for performers and audience members
- Providing a loading path to the stage for musicians
- Creating an accessible apron in front of the stage for dancing or seating for patrons with disabilities
- Offering seating locations for viewing matches on the adjacent soccer field during non-concert hours
The distinctive geometry of the hyperbolic paraboloid roof not helps the venue to stand out on the horizon, but also consumes less footprint on the stage, since it lands on only two points of the stage – opening up sightlines and staging flexibility. The wooden interior slats of the roof provide visual warmth and shade for performers.
