Denver, CO

For the conversion and restoration of the historic landmark 1901 Denver Tramway Power Company Building, Semple Brown Design worked hand-in-hand with Mithun, the architect of record, to create a design, which met the strict historic guidelines of the Secretary of the Interior. Semple Brown Design worked closely with many regulatory agencies and interest groups including the Colorado Historical Society, Denver Landmark’s Board, Platte Valley River Commission, and the National Park Service. The Denver Tramway Building’s existing materials consisted of wood, masonry, steel, and concrete. Nearly two million bricks were tuck pointed and new materials were sensitively matched and introduced into the historic complex. The 94,000 square foot building still has many of its historic features including original windows, a smokestack structure and coal hoppers.
