Anschutz Commons at Graland Country Day School
Denver, CO
The Anschutz Commons building is a striking example of contextual contemporary design. The new building replaced a prior campus classroom building at the heart of the 7-acre Graland Country Day School Campus, a private K-8 educational institution established in 1924. The design simultaneously provides the school with highly flexible food service, classroom and community spaces, and reinforces the unity of the historic design principles of the campus. The scale of the structure and its connections to outdoor spaces knit it together with existing green spaces to improve student circulation and access. The daylighting strategy and re-used historic roof tiles are two of the highly sustainable elements of the project.
Anschutz Commons at Graland Country Day School was awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Buildings Council.
